Who I am.

Born in Silverdale, WA, freelance oboist Madeline Carlson Harstad has performed around the Pacific Northwest for over 10 years.
While pursuing her bachelors degree at Central Washington University, she has played with many of the instrumental ensembles including the CWU Symphony Orchestra, CWU Wind Ensemble, and The Orpheus Ensemble. During her time at CWU, she has received the notable Schaake Scholars Scholarship and the C. Farrell Fine Arts & Research Scholarship, with her woodwind quintet, The Orpheus Ensemble. She and her colleagues diligently researched and advocated for chamber music education in low budget schools across Central Washington through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Frequently playing in the CWU instrumental ensembles, Harstad has performed at distinguished conferences around the United States such as The Midwest Clinic, The National Association of Music Educators conference, and The College Band Directors National Association conference.
Harstad received her bachelor’s degree in Broad Area Music under Dr. Scott Erickson and minor in Family Science at Central Washington University in 2022. She studied under Kristin Guy prior to her time at CWU.
Harstad currently works for The Kitsap Philharmonic, teaches privately and performs around the Kitsap County area.
